Marco Aurelio: You are stronger than you think

One of the greatest exponents of Stoicism is the compassionate and generous Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius. He had to spend a good part of his life hard, fighting against the German hordes. To help himself overcome so many difficulties, in the last decade of his life, in the solitude of his tent, Marco Aurelio wrote a newspaper. This newspaper was not written to be published, but it has reached us and is one of the most influential texts of the last centuries.

The Stoics did not believe in cheering themselves up and hoping that things would improve in the face of adversity. Instead, they believed in our ability to understand human nature itself and manage our emotions, without depending on external circumstances. How can we achieve this? Marco Aurelio tells us: «You are stronger than you think. Of course things can go wrong, but you can overcome them ».
